Transformation and design of interior for the Michelin-starred 8-seat counter restaurant Ernst in Berlin. The renovation project celebrates a careful approach to both sourcing and preparation of produce, by providing a quiet architectural scene, through a meticulous attention to detail. The project was carried out with Egyptian-Danish architect and designer, Salem Charabi and with the contribution of Dylan Watson, Spencer Chritenson, Inga Krieger. Throughout the generous space, clad in a finde earthy clay-plaster, hand crafted objects and details appear as the guest move through the restaurant after being welcomed by the chefs. Hand-crafted aluminum wall lights illuminate the hallways, as guests approach the wardrobe made from German oak, with two hand-carved handles offering the only ornamentation. In the second corridor, a stone bench made from Bavarian limestone offers the guest a moment of pause, while waiting to be seated along the wooden counter in the dining space. The wooden chairs are finished with a tea-like liquid made from the logs’ bark used to produce the chair. The same technique was applied to all cabinetry throughout the restautant, contrasting the subdued hue of the clay-plastered walls and heavy linen curtains.
