The villa facing west, overlooking the mediterranean sea was analysed and fully renovated through a concept of inhabiting the space that one then acts to change. In a period of 12 months preceding the renovation, this method was carried out, in order to understand the movements of bodies, light, wind and temperatures throughout the seasons. Completed with collaboration and supervision of Italian architect, Eleonora Ghezzi. The garden was designed to open up the house on various levels towards the seaside, while protecting from the wind and the strong summersun. Vernacular stone walls with local green tuff were built by local artisans around the house, with niches and openings. An outdoor shower and two bathrooms were installed to carry the story of the island’s thermal water sources through the house. The floor is handmade terracotta over a system of floor heating, keeping a arm and dry interior climate during winter. Openings were raised from floor to ceiling in order to work with the verticality of the space, shaping angles and framing views that allows for the surrounding landscape and sea to enter into the heart of the villa.
